Reading Response #12: 232-240

The thoughts about these reading is very intuitive based on the information when discussing the innovation, the internet has done at the artistic level. The new technological wave is given the artistic world a new canvas, a new practice and in a sense, it has made it more and more based around the traditions of old artistic ways, and the new wave of technology-based pieces of work. Something as commercially based like a movie, can really make a difference and an impact at an artistic level. Something that caught my eye, was the based on making a virtual reality, a work of art rather than just another machine or innovation. By making it more artistically based, it can break traditions and customs already implemented by the society, and make it mean so much more. Something like a movie, or even a virtual reality, can become more than just an escape or a way of getting away from the pain or even suffering of everyday life, by playing at life. People such as Dan Sandlin, made a mark by making a virtual machine in a way that has all the artistical elements, but also implements technological attributes. Making visualities, in today’s day in age, making visuals are just as important, especially with the massive amounts of tools now a day, which we should use, in our favor, as appose to it working against us. We need to learn to adapt, and overall change traditions in a sense that makes it more vivid.

  1. I think that you make an interesting point in saying that we need to learn to adapt. I believe that more and more we are doing so in regards to art, but I also think tradition still has its place. Viewing paintings in the Louvre is going to hold a different experience than seeing that same painting in virtual reality, something that could be benefited from, as well as detracted from. There are different arguments for each side and the experiences they hold. Good job!

  2. I think the discussion on adapting and what Taylor had to say about the Louvre is very interesting. There are ways to take a tour of the Louvre in virtual reality online, but, of course, it is a different experience than going in person. However, this virtual reality experience gives so many people who could otherwise not see the Louvre in their lifetime the opportunity to experience it for themselves. On the other hand, I hope people do not become complacent and begin to think that going to these amazing places in person is not worth it. It's all about finding a balance.
